Chaoyang paleontological fossils will be showcased at the Shanghai World Expo

Liaoxi Business Daily News (Reporter Wu Yu stationed in Chaoyang) Chaoyang paleontological fossils will once again showcase their charm in front of people around the world. It is reported that many paleontological fossils found in Chaoyang, such as Chinese Loong Bird, have been arranged in the Liaoning Pavilion of Shanghai World Expo, and a boutique exhibition composed of dozens of Chaoyang fossils is expected to meet friends from all over the world during the Expo.

It is reported that the theme of the Liaoning Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo is "Gangyun Hailu Hua Liaoning". Among them, fossil display has become the highlight. During the World Expo, the Liaoning Pavilion will showcase two treasures to people around the world: the world's first bird and the world's first flower. Speaking of these two treasures, Liaoxi people should not be unfamiliar, because the Chinese Loong bird and Liaoning Guguo fossils were found in Chaoyang.

Chinese Loong bird fossil was found in Beipiao in August 1996. Compared with today's birds, Chinese Loong has a very strange shape, covering a "feather" about 0.8cm long from beginning to end. Expert research has found that these "feathers" are not only different from the feathers of birds today, but also different from animal feathers, and are a unique skin derivative. Experts identified the Chinese Loong bird as 124 million years ago. Its discovery confirmed that birds evolved from dinosaurs, and it was one of the important scientific discoveries in the 20th century. The fossil of Liaoning ancient fruit was discovered in 1998, also in Beipiao. Guguo is an early angiosperm (flowering plant) that already possesses the basic characteristics of flowers. Liaoning ancient fruit fossils have received no less attention than Chinese Loong bird fossils. It has appeared on the cover of Science magazine in the United States more than once, and is known as "an earlier flower with exact evidence in the world so far".

Along with these two fossils, there are also 4 to 6 fossils exhibited at the Liaoning Pavilion, all of which have significant importance in the history of paleontological development, such as the fossil of the Confucian bird.

In order to make the fossil display more vivid, the Liaoning Museum also placed a special "usher" at the entrance, that is, the Chinese Loong bird model restored according to the research results. It is worth mentioning that this "Chinese Loong bird" can move and sing as if it were resurrected. It is understood that the Liaoning Pavilion is divided into three parts: first, an overall introduction to Liaoning; The second is a 360 degree 4D surround screen cinema, which provides a comprehensive introduction to Liaoning.

To further promote Chaoyang's fossil culture and increase its external visibility, Chaoyang City intends to organize a Chaoyang Paleontological Fossil Exhibition at the World Expo. At that time, the city will select 30 to 50 fossils and showcase them to people around the world at the World Expo. This intention has received support from the provincial government and the Ministry of Land and Resources. At present, relevant matters are under negotiation.
